Creating a main reading area that was inviting and relaxing was my main priority when moving into our brand new classroom last May. Little additions of a lamp, rugs and bright cushions helped to make the literacy corner more comfortable and friendly.
On display in the literacy area are the basic initial sounds (with a couple of the most common phase 3 sounds) that we revisit daily. Our literacy task board is also here, we have four differentiated groups for guided reading and literacy center work. Visit my Flickr for more detailed notes on what is displayed here.
Just out of view are the children's group book boxes for independent reading, our main literacy tray trolley with all our resources, the listening center and the writing table. This is the place where the whole class engage in shared reading and writing and where smaller groups focus during guided reading and writing sessions.
