Sharing stories together is very important to our family.
My daughter Rebecca is four and chooses a bedtime story to enjoy every evening. This time is precious.
There are no interruptions. Just my voice and hers.
Sometimes she chooses the same book again and again but we see this as a positive thing. If your child goes back to a book, there must be something wonderful to be found within the pages!
Fostering an appreciation of books and reading is one of the best head starts in life that I feel I can offer Rebecca. Reading helps us to communicate and learn from others. As an early years teacher, many parents ask me how they can help to improve their child's reading. My advice is always read, read, read!
“Being more enthusiastic about reading and a
frequent reader was more of an advantage, on
its own, than having well-educated parents in
good jobs.”(Reading for Change, Organisation for
Economic Co-operation and Development, 2002).
Here are a few of our favourite picture books and children's authors.
I really hope that parents and teachers alike will find something here to inspire them when sharing stories with children. I am blogging about children's picture books because I love them.
Thank you for visiting xx
